SNL Enlists Retired Comedians For Urgent Humor Assessment

SNL's humor recall: 'Elderly' jokes deemed 'fresh.

The esteemed institution known as Saturday Night Live, in a move signaling either profound desperation or an acute understanding of market nostalgia, has reportedly initiated an emergency recall of its comedic elders. Figures like Amy Poehler, once thought safely ensconced in their post-late-night ventures, were sighted returning to the hallowed halls of 30 Rock, presumably to provide an urgent humor assessment.

One can only surmise that the current comedic ecosystem at NBC has become so barren that only the tried-and-true, desiccated wit of yesteryear can coax a chuckle from an increasingly jaded public. The notion of a "joke-off" among these seasoned veterans smacks less of playful reunion and more of a desperate scramble for the last vestiges of reliable mirth, a comedic archaeological dig for punchlines that once landed.

Insiders (read: my perpetually disappointed former SNL intern) whisper of a critical 'funny deficit,' particularly after another daring and utterly groundbreaking skewering of a former presidential cabinet. It seems the well of fresh satire, much like the show itself, has run critically dry, necessitating the reanimation of comedy's greatest hits. Why create when you can simply exhume?
